Basic safety near the water.

July 15, 2019

Summer is here and the temps are climbing.

One great way to beat the heat is by relaxing in your favorite water spot.

This may be the local beach, lake, creek, river or back yard swimming pool.

No matter where you go, please be sure to observe water safety practices, especially when it comes to the little ones.

Always keep a close watch on children and teach them to swim and respect the water. Also, use life preservers or approved floatation devices when appropriate.

Entirely too often we hear about child drownings where a guardian only looked away for what seemed to be a second.

Always have an adult in the pool with the little ones, regardless of the depth. Drowning can occur in as little as 1 inch of water.  It’s never too early to teach CPR to anyone that will be near the water and may have the responsibility of watching others.

Let’s not forget to keep the sunscreen handy too! Little ones probably won’t say anything about a sun burn until they have already been burned.

As a parent, grandparent and great grandparent, there is nothing as wonderful as hearing the little ones laugh and play.

With some basic precautions, we can be sure that the good times keep on coming.

Have a safe and fun Summer.
