As the summer months approach, it seems each day gets hotter and hotter. Most homeowners and renters are quite close to considering locking up their thermostat to keep from lowering it even more. However! With the following tricks, you can find ways to live comfortably while enjoying the best gift of all: low utility bills! All jokes aside, the most common theme in these tricks comes down to the steady maintenance of your home. By making sure a few important things are taken care of and updated, you could be left with many more dollars in your pocket!
- Make sure HVAC is serviced
- Program thermostat to higher temp. when out of the house
- Keep air filters changed regularly ( will help overall health)
- Opt for ceiling fans or plug in fans over A/C
- Opt for black out curtains to keep heat out
- Keep curtains closed
- Make sure all doors/windows are closed with tight seal
- Check insulation
- Use energy sucking items (showers/ dishwashers etc.) in the morning or evening rather than peak energy hours
- Make sure all vents are open
