Spring Market! Time for Spring Cleaning!

May 07, 2019

The time is here once again, especially if you plan to list your home for sale in the spring market. Time to declutter that junk closet, donate old clothes, and refresh your environment by cleaning out the old and leaving room for the new. Yes, it’s time for Spring cleaning. Here are some top projects to think about tackling in the upcoming season that can help improve your living space or help prepare for selling and future open houses:

  • Decluttering by room

  • Work on the Exterior

  • Forgotten Tasks

Decluttering by room- For most, this technique of moving from room to room to ensure each space is decluttered, tends to be the least stressful due to the pace and process. If you are one to get stressed and overwhelmed when cleaning, this may be the most achievable. Start with bathrooms and the kitchen since they tend to be the most used rooms of the home.

Work on the Exterior- As our lives get more and more busy, it is often enough work to keep the inside of the home clean and tidy let alone worry about the exterior. This Spring is the perfect chance to freshen up your curb appeal with very simple steps such as a fresh coat of paint, most exterior paint lasts longer than a decade. Another simple step is to clean up any leftover holiday décor or replace any outdoor furniture or cushions that could contribute to a newfound appreciation of your outdoor space or help with selling efforts.

Forgotten Tasks- Spring Cleaning can be some peoples least favorite time of year, to where it may be avoided completely. Who enjoys sorting, scrubbing, and fixing the whole house? Not many! That is why it is important to create your own rules, your version of spring cleaning could be to simply catch up on tasks that have gotten away from you or tasks that are normally forgotten chores. Examples include:

  • Cleaning UNDERNEATH all the furniture

  • Dusting lights

  • Wash windows

  • Overlooked surfaces: baseboards, door frames, walls

  • Replace or throw out any dead plants

If even one of these projects gets completed, the outcome will leave your home in a better, more functional state and for those looking to sell in the future, this will give you an opportunity to get ahead of all the upcoming cleaning tasks.
