Wanting To Update Your Home On A Small Budget?

April 09, 2019

Paint is easily one of the biggest home design tools at your disposal. It has the ability to take a room from dark and dingy to light and bright – and from small and cramped to spacious and airy.

One big tip when choosing paint colors – paint the majority of your home one neutral color. This helps with the flow and cohesiveness of your home. Painting a dramatic color in one or two smaller spaces, like a bathroom or a dining room, can make it stand out and create more of a lasting impression to visitors.

Adding bold color to your walls can be a great way to change up your space but don’t go overboard with dramatic colors. Some very trendy colors currently are deep greys, greens, and blues.

A trend we’ve been noticing a lot is dark walls. You definitely don’t want to do that everywhere, just like a dramatic color – keep dark walls to an accent wall or a smaller space. Painting the whole interior a dark color can make the home feel dark and cavernous.

Whether you decide to paint your walls in just one space or all of them, make sure you choose the right color before you tape off the baseboards and prep the room to paint. You don’t want to keep the painter’s tape on these places for extended periods of time. The longer it sits on a surface, the more the tape dries out and the harder it is to remove.

Picking the color or colors can be the hardest part. You can spend a lot time getting samples and trying them in the room, but in the end it’s worth it. The last thing you want to do is find a color, pay $50 - $100 for gallons of paint, paint an entire room, and then decide you don’t like it or it doesn’t work in the space and you have to repaint the room. A good idea is to put samples on the walls you’re wanting to paint, leave them on for a few days (this will allow you to see these colors in different light throughout the day and night), then choose your color/colors from there.

Painting is a great way to update any space. It allows you to update or add drama to any room on a budget.
