To splurge or to buy?

November 28, 2018

Decking the halls and roasting chestnuts on an open fire are perfect ways to get in the holiday spirit. If you are a homeowner looking to buy a home in the near future, you can rest comfortably knowing you can still enjoy your holiday season without turning into the Grinch! Nowadays, most involved in Christmas know what an expensive holiday it is. If you are looking to buy a home you might want to avoid some major holiday splurges or make early preparations to save more money. Here are some tips:

  • Set a budget and stick to it

  • Get out early to hit holiday deals and sales

  • Avoid impulse buying

  • Remember your long term goals (buying that house!)

If you are aware of your goal to buy your home early enough in the year, this can afford you time to account for all the preparations for the upcoming season but when important decisions such as buying a home come about, a more creative approach can end up meaning more than materialistic items purchased at a store. This year, perhaps try making
a present or two, to replace a gift that otherwise would have been bought. For example, lushious blanket throws are always a good go-to gift, but with a simple fabric and an interesting border,  you can make a blanket throw yourself and the gift will end up meaning so much more and will end up saving you money towards your goals. During such a giving season no one wants to see anyone do without, but by preparing in advance, no one will have to!
