Are you Hardest Hit?

Are you Hardest Hit?

Unfortunately, life happens to people, regardless of if we plan on it or not.

In some circumstances, some of life’s difficulties may cause a hardship that does not allow the home loan to be paid. This was quite common in the past 10 years or so, during the housing crisis.

It was so prevalent that the Federal Government stepped in and set up the Hardest Hit program. This is a mortgage assistance program that was extended to a number of states using TARP funds.

To see if your state was included, go to www.treasury.gov/initiatives/financial-stability/TARP-Programs/housing/hhf/Pages/default.aspx

If your mortgage is in default due to a financial or personal hardship, there may be funds available to you to remedy this. For information on program parameters and requirements, simply go to the link above and read through the pages of information.

The funds are typically paid directly to your lender to bring a loan current and sometimes pay a loan ahead of time.

If you find yourself in a financial crisis with your home loan, please reach out to see if help is available in your state. Some states have programs that are not affiliated with Hardest Hit funds, so do not give up without asking someone at the State level.
