Fall is here..

October 12, 2018

Fall is here, at least according to the calendar. Some of us here in the south have not yet seen the cooler comfortable temperatures that Autumn brings.

If you are anything like me, a nice warm fire in the fireplace makes home a cozy and comfortable place to be when the weather breaks.

Before using the fireplace for the first time each year, a prudent homeowner should have the chimney inspected and cleaned to insure safe operation during the Winter.

As simple as a chimney may seem, there are issues that an inspection may uncover that could save your families lives. These issues include blockage from animals or birds, a corroded or missing chimney cap and liner condition.

Many chimneys have liners that run from the fireplace to the top of the chimney. These liners act as heat insulation and insure that the smoke and exhaust exit the home above the roof line.

If a liner is cracked or corroded, smoke, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and heat may be venting into the home or attic. This may not be noticeable until it becomes a serious problem!

A professional chimney inspector or chimney sweep can clean the chimney and check it for safe and proper operation.

A small investment at the beginning of the season will make for a worry-free Winter in front of the fireplace.
