Fall Back - Household Check List
October 14, 2022
Sunday, November 6, 2022, marks the end of Daylight Saving Time when we “fall back” and set our clocks back one hour. The result is an extra hour of sleep Saturday night, followed by earlier sunsets and shorter days.
Daylight Saving Time serves as a twice-yearly reminder to complete some important household tasks. Whether you already own a home or are planning to buy one soon, you probably already know to ensure your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order and have fresh batteries.
It’s also a good idea to use Daylight Saving as a reminder to:
- Flip or rotate your mattress to make sure it wears evenly, and wash your pillows to keep them clean, fresh, and free of dust mites.
- In the kitchen, run the oven’s self-cleaning function and clean the refrigerator’s coils to keep it running efficiently.
- Take stock of your medicine cabinet and pantry, and safely dispose of anything that is expired.
- Replenish basic supplies, and make sure your emergency kit is stocked with flashlight batteries and first-aid supplies.
- Inspect the filters in the heating and air-conditioning units, the water filter in your fridge, and the HEPA filter in your vacuum. While you’re at it, vacuum out the dryer’s vent and ducts to help prevent fire.
Happy Fall Everyone.
