Top 7 Tips For Selling Your Home In The Winter Time

October 12, 2022

While it can be expected to have fewer buyers during the winter time, it’s important to know the ones that are out during those cold months are seriously motivated!  Ensuring your home is ready to show will help get your that offer!

  1. Shovel – If you are in an area where the snow falls it’s important to keep any pathways salted and shoveled to ensure buyers can get the full exterior view during their showing.
  2. Landscaping – While the vegetation isn’t growing as much during the cold months it’s important to keep it looking as tidy as possible.  Blow away any dead leaves if possible, remove dead vegetation, add seasonal pops of color such as wreaths, holly or topiaries on outdoor bushes.
  3. Photography – It’s okay to include photos from the summer and spring time.  Buyers will appreciate seeing what the home looks like during the other seasons.
  4. Seasonal tune-ups – Before you decide to list your home for sale it’s not a bad idea to have your furnace and CA inspected by a professional.  If any some repairs are needed, you’ll know now rather than during a buyer’s home inspection creating a hiccup in the offer/closing process.
  5. Lighting – Since it’s darker even earlier during those pesky winter months it’s a good idea to keep the lights on in the home even when you are not or set on a timer.
  6. Keep it warm – After buyers walk through the snow from their car and enter your home, having them walk into a warm cozy home is ideal and inviting.  Consider keeping your home heated 68 to 70 degrees.
  7. Staging – If you have already moved out of the home, consider using a professional staging company.  They will help create a cozy and inviting feeling in your home.
