Spring Home Maintenance Tips!

March 15, 2022

As we head into Spring and the sun starts shinning longer and the ground starts to thaw, I’ve prepared tips to make sure your home is ready!

  1. Look at your roof shingles – Ensure you don’t have any missing or loose shingles.  Any that are cracked or buckled need to be replaced.  Make sure to look at the flashing as well around  any skylights, chimneys or plumbing vents.
  2. Clean downspouts and gutters – During winter months the freezing and thawing can cause dips and sags.
  3. Chimney Check-up – To ensure your chimney is working properly hire a pro that can easily clean and check for any leaks or cracks.
  4. Change filters and batteries – Changing your furnace filter regularly is important to help keeping your furnace running properly.  Don’t forget to change your batteries in the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and test them to make sure they are running properly.
  5. Trim landscaping – Trim your plans and shrubs to prevent soil erosion.
  6. Give concrete a little TLC – Power wash your patio and concrete and seal your driveway.  If you have a pool sometimes it’s easier to have a pro service your pool
  7. Weatherproof your windows and doors – It’s always a good idea to check your screens and replace any that are needed.  Check the weather stripping and caulk lines also.
  8. Check sprinkler and irrigation systems – Check heads and replace any broken or damaged ones. Adjust any heads that are aimed towards the home, street or sidewalk as this is just wasting water.
  9. Repair any peeling or cracked paint – A nice paint job can easily make your home look spectacular, while also providing a barrier from the elements. It’s an easy and inexpensive maintenance tip.
  10. Lawn Mower – Before you know it, you’ll be out there cutting the lawn.  Change your engine oil and sharpen the cutting blade to lengthen the life of your mower.
