What is the neighborhood like? How many times have you wondered that?

As a Realtor, I hear it all the time. Prospective home buyers wanting to do due diligence on the neighborhood that they are considering. ow many times have you heard thatH

Where do we go to get that information?

Since a Real Estate agent will not, and should not, likely give you their opinion of any certain neighborhood, here is what I suggest. Start your search online using Realtor.com, Trulia.com, Zillow.com, Bestplaces.net and others. Values will vary on these sites, sometimes by a significant amount. Not to worry, as these sites give you other information that you are after. The value is something that you count on your appraiser and agent for.

What you are looking for on these sites is a map showing crime stats, demographics and other community stats.

If you should have concerns about what shows on these maps, I suggest that you call the local law enforcement office and ask an officer on duty about the neighborhood that you are looking at.

If you wish to dive deeper into the area, you can go to other sites.

Some of them include the local county. There is a wealth of information there, including tax rates and possible tax discounts available to owners.

Next, if there is an HOA, I suggest calling them and asking about the dues amount, possible increases, assessments and what amenities may be included. This may just provide you with a pleasant surprise.

Wouldn’t it be nice to find out that the community has a pool for all residents, that you were not aware of?

Finally, we highly suggest that you do the research and check for yourself. This is generally a long-term decision that should not be left to someone else. Take a few minutes to become familiar with your prospective neighborhood.

That little extra comfort will make your decision a little easier.
