Fall is here...Get ready for winter!

Fall is upon us. Here are some ways you can get your home ready for the winter in Michigan.

Clean your gutters
Check your attic for insulation and add insulation if needed
Make sure any exposed wood on the exterior is sealed or painted
Caulk anywhere needed around windows or doors
Tuck point where needed on foundation, chimney and brick work
If you have a second home or vacant home, make sure it is winterized and all plumbing is drained to avoid freeze ups
Make sure your generator still works in case of a power outage
Have snow shovels handy and salt or ice melt for your walks and drive
Have your chimney cleaned
Check carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms
Cover patio furniture
Shut off outdoor faucets and cover to avoid freeze ups
Have your sprinkler system winterized
Have your furnace serviced and make sure filters are changed regularly
