How the holiday season impacts the Real Estate market!

November 25, 2020

The timing of buying and selling homes are linked through several factors. It is common for buyers to work in a quicker time frame than most sellers when finding either the right time to buy or the best time to sell. While the holidays can be known for the joy and cheer that is around, it is also one of the most stressful times of the year, especially for real estate. While it is fairly common for the rate of open house demands to drop during the holiday season, it is expected to exponentially increase following the new year. The Sunday directly after Christmas is proven to be predominantly one of the busiest days of the year for agents in the United States (Realtor.com). In regards to buyers, they can often be more likely to purchase homes during the holiday season solely based on trying to avoid paying capital gains tax which is a major benefit of purchasing a home in November, the fourth quarter of the year. The sellers can take advantage of this aspect by also posting their listings just before the holiday weekend, as market trends have shown that listings are most effective during this time to prospective buyers. Some food for thought to add to your holiday season!
