Home heating safety

November 04, 2020

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone that can read this. We truly live in a magnificent country.

That being said, we are quickly approaching the cooler days that indicate Winter is coming.

During these times, some people find it necessary to cover windows with plastic sheeting to stop heat from leaking out of their homes.

While this may be one way to preserve warmth in your home, please remember that sealing up a home too tightly may have potential hazards.

If you have a home that has been sealed up tight and you use a kerosene heater or gas stove, then the exhaust fumes may not have anywhere to go. When these build up, the inside air can become dangerous. With not enough Oxygen, people can suffocate in their sleep.

Too many times, we see these tragic stories.

Please by all means use safe practices when using alternative heat sources and be sure to install carbon monoxide detectors as well as smoke detectors in your home.

If you may not be able to afford them, then please reach out to your local Fire Department.

Some offer free detectors and may even come install thhem for free.

They could just save your lives.
