Winter home safety

Winter Safety tip.

Happy New Year to everyone out there. We sincerely hope that 2018 brings health, happiness and
prosperity to you and yours.
Since this is the beginning of the new year, this is a good time to take a breather and check a few things
that will keep you safe throughout the remaining winter months.
The most obvious but often overlooked is the batteries in your smoke detectors. While these little
monitors are mostly out of sight, they should not remain out of mind. Checking or changing the batteries
and checking that they work properly, could save a life or several lives. It only takes a few minutes.
Along that line, while you are at it, check your carbon monoxide detectors as well. While smoke may be
fairly evident, carbon monoxide is not. It is colorless, odorless and can kill by displacing the oxygen in
your air. Carbon monoxide is an exhaust given off during combustion of some heating fuels, like gas and
charcoal. One of these detectors could be the only thing between your family and a terrible tragedy. If
you have one, please check to be sure that it is operating properly. If you do not, please consider having
one installed or install one yourself.
Properly installing either of these early warning devices could save your family from disaster.
The final precaution is a chimney inspection and or cleaning. There are 3 different levels of inspection
when it comes to a chimney. To find out more, visit this link. csia.org/inspections.html
Isn’t your safety worth some extra effort?
Stay warm and safe for the remaining winter months.
Our best to you and yours.
