A Simple way to Update

April 14, 2020

Has being quarantined at home made you want to update your house but you don’t want to spend a lot of money? Then consider updating your walls with paint!

Paint is easily one of the biggest home design tools at your disposal. Painting has the ability to take a room from dark and dingy to light and bright – and from small and cramped to spacious and airy.
One big tip when choosing paint colors – paint the majority of your home one neutral color. This helps with the flow and cohesiveness of your home. Painting a dramatic color in one or two smaller spaces, like a bathroom or a dining room, will make it stand out and can create more of a lasting impression to visitors.
A trend we’ve been noticing a lot is dark walls. You definitely don’t want to do that everywhere, just like a dramatic color – keep dark walls to an accent wall or a smaller space. Painting the whole interior a dark color can make the home feel dark and cavernous.

Picking the color or colors can be the hardest part. You can spend a lot time getting samples and trying them in the room, but in the end it’s worth it.  Be sure to leave the sample on the wall for several days so that it can be viewed in different light.  Once you decide on a color, think about what type of sheen you want for the room you are going to paint.  A good source to help you decide on sheen and paint color is the web.  Find a good website that has information, helpful tips and videos.  Many of these sites now come with the ability to see a picture of your room with the color to get a feel of how it would look.

Painting is a great way to update any space. It allows you to update or add drama to any room on a budget.  Go ahead and give it a try!
