Is your chimney in good working order?
December 09, 2019
Since the colder weather is here, I thought that it would serve a s a great reminder.
If you are anything like me, a nice warm fire in the fireplace makes home a cozy and comfortable place to be when the weather breaks.
Before using the fireplace for the first time each year, a prudent homeowner should have the chimney inspected and cleaned to insure safe operation during the Winter.
As simple as a chimney may seem, there are issues that an inspection may uncover that could save your families lives. These issues include blockage from animals or birds, a corroded or missing chimney cap and liner condition.
Many chimneys have liners that run from the fireplace to the top of the chimney. These liners act as a heat insulation and makes sure that the smoke and exhaust exit the home above the roof line.
If a liner is cracked or corroded, smoke, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and heat may be venting into the home or attic. This may not be noticeable until it becomes a serious problem!
A professional chimney inspector or chimney sweep can clean the chimney and check it for safe and proper operation. A small investment at the beginning of the season will make for a worry-free Winter in front of the fireplace.
