September 12, 2024
Here are some things you can do to prepare your home for fall:
Check your heating system
Ensure your heating system is working and ready for winter. You can have a qualified technician clean and inspect your heating system annually.
Clean gutters
Clean your gutters and downspouts to remove debris. Check for damage and make sure they are securely attached to your house.
Seal doors and windows
Check for gaps or slits in your windows and doors and seal them to prevent heat from escaping.
Check your chimney
Have a professional clean and maintain your chimney, especially if you plan to use it during the winter.
Drain hoses and exterior faucets
Drain hoses and store them in the garage.
Clean your dryer
Clean the exhaust duct and the space under and behind your dryer.
Clean your windows
Clean your windows in the fall to prevent dust, pollen, and grime from building up.
Drain your water heater
Drain your water heater once a year to remove sediment that can cause clogs.
Switch out fabrics
Replace cotton fabrics with softer materials like velvets and knits for a cozier fall feel.
