Summer Home Maintenance Checklist

June 14, 2024

Here are some helpful items that are often overlooked during home maintenance.
  • Switch your ceiling fan blade direction to counterclockwise.
  • When trying to cool spaces down the blade spinning counterclockwise will help cool the air by providing a downdraft.
  • Clean refrigerator coils
  • The coils tend to collect dust & pet hair.  Cleaning them will help your fridge run more efficiently.
  • Wash windows and check screens.
  • Cleaning the tracks and windows will ensure they continue to open smoothly.  Ensure the screens don’t need any repair or repair if found to keep insects out.
  • Check for air leaks around windows and doors.
  • To keep cold air in and hot air out, check your door and windows for leaks.  If any are found, sealing them caulking or weather stripping will help your home maintain your temperature.
  • Service your air conditioner.
  • Regular maintenance will help ensure your ac is working properly and as effectively as possible during the summer months. Make sure to hose down your unit as well as it collects debris and dirt over time.
  • Inspect the roof
  • Take a step back and look at your roof from all sides and possible angle. If any shingles are cracked, missing or curled, make sure to address the issue to ensure no leaks happen in the future.
  • Clean exterior dryer vent
  • Make sure to remove any built-up lint from the dryer vent to help your dryer work efficiently.  27% of dryer fires are caused due to built up debris in the dryer vent.
  • Inspect walkways & driveways
  • Inspect the pavement for any holes or cracks.  Fixing any issues found will help prevent trips, falls and accidental slips.  It is always better to do a small repair verus a large repair.
