Fertilizer to use near lakes and ponds

April 23, 2024

Whether you are using fertilizer for your lawn, your garden, or any other items it is important to know the difference in fertilizer.  You will see three numbers on the bags.  The first number tells you how much nitrogen is in the mix.  The second number tells you how much phosphorus is in the mix.  The third number tell you how much potassium is in the ingredients.  What's is most important to know if you have a small lake or pond is that you want the middle number to be a zero.  By applying fertilizer with anything but a zero in the middle number,  you could be adding nutrients to weed growth in the lake or pond.  Remember, keep the middle number if it is not a zero away from water edge and from possible runoff.
