Practice The "Three C's" In Every Real Estate Transaction

November 15, 2022

Let's face it. Right now is a tough time for buyers and sellers. Buyers are facing high interest rates, while sellers are facing declining prices. These situations can most certainly cause frustration, and this frustration could be transferred to the agent of both parties. As a result, friction can result during negotiations and when under contract. However, when agents apply the "three C's" to their interactions with the other side, it can certainly lend to a smoother transaction. What are they? Communication, Cooperation and Courtesy. How can we apply these to a transaction?

Communication: This is essential for a smooth transaction. When one party learns of an issue that affects both parties, it is best to relate this to the other side as soon as possible. Is a repair needed? Does the buyer need to change lenders? Whatever it may be, communicating this to the other side is extremely important. We must not forget that, as agents, we must disclose any items to the other side that they have a right to know about

Cooperation: It is so very important to be cooperative during a transaction. This means taking action when asked to do something, responding promptly or as quickly as is reasonably possible to a request, or being willing to help out the other side when it's in our power to do so. Having the attitude of "that's their issue or problem" on every situation that arises will only cause frustration and delays.

Courtesy: This doesn't specifically require the completion of a task or responding to an email. This more about the reasons, attitude and body language displayed when completing those tasks. This is a human quality that is shown in the motives behind what we do, as well as the choice of words we use. Showing kindness and respect and avoiding confrontation will go a long way making the buying or selling of our client's home a memorable one, for more of the right reason than the wrong ones. Be courteous to others.

Applying the "three C's" during a real estate transaction will do much to promote a pleasant atmosphere during a very stressful time for buyers and sellers.
