The BullStreet District
March 08, 2018
“The BullStreet District is the essence of the New Urban South – where we’re transforming centuries of history into visionary energy and rediscovering our roots as a new urban experience is created.”
A mile away from the State House and USC houses one of the most anticipated projects in downtown Columbia, SC in recent years. What was formerly the S.C. Department of Mental Health is now being transformed into what is now known as The BullStreet District. Hughes Development Corporation (HDC) purchased the entire parcel of land, totaling 181 acre development in 2010. HDC is leading the project, guiding the vision, and creating this revitalization project.
With this project comes the USC Health Campus and Medical School, 20 acre public park with walking/running trails, Dog Park, natural water habitat with a 2 acre pond including the newly restored Smith Branch Creek. Spirit Communications park which is already open for visitors and is home to the Columbia Fireflies. Apartments and other residential buildings, shopping, restaurants, offices, and more.
The BullStreet District is expected to have a $1.2 Billion annual economic impact on the city of Columbia. To say that this new endeavor will have a huge impact on our wonderful city is the least.
