Home Spring Cleaning and Maintenance Checklist

After all the cold, dark days of winter everyone is ready to get their spring cleaning started. What better time with the longer days and temperatures rising. This is a great time to start a deep, thorough cleaning of your home and perform regular maintenance to get ready for another year. Both interior and exterior are in need of some TLC after these long, cold months.

Exterior Checklist:

  • Cleaning your gutters and downspouts is crucial. Leaves, twigs, and other debris have fallen during these cold months and could be clogging your gutters, keeping them from draining properly. This is the perfect time to check your gutters for any that may have pulled away from the home or have leakage.
  • Inspect windows, from the screens, windowsills, and the actual window itself. Fill any cracks, caulk edges, and repaint or replace if needed. Clean your screens and check for hole or tears. Patch holes or replace screen if needed.
  • Pressure wash siding to keep mold from growing. Check for areas that need to be sanded or repainted.
  • Check all decks, patios, and porches. Retreat and restain as needed.
  • Landscaping is a given. Cut and trim all vegetation and overgrown bushes away from the home to reduce scratching.
  • Thoroughly check your roof for leaks or damage from snow and ice.

Interior Checklist

  • Clean walls and baseboards. You can use a vacuum brush attachment for this. Repair any holes and touch up painted as needed.
  • Vacuum all upholstery; sofas, chairs, ottomans, ect. Steam clean or spot clean as needed.
  • Dust and wipe down your ceiling fans.
  • Pay special attention to things that do not get cleaned on a regular basis. If you have a lot of grease build up in the kitchen be sure to wipe down cabinets. Check and replace light bulbs. Dust hanging picture frames or other wall décor.
  • Check your air filters and have your HVAC system inspected and tuned up by a professional before switching to AC.
