8 Ways To Stay Safe Showing Homes

August 12, 2021

It is better to be safe than sorry when showing homes. Here are some ways to stay safe during your showing...

1. Show properties during daylight hours. You never know what could be lurking in the dark and some vacant/bank owned homes do not have power on for lights.

2. Make sure your buyer is qualified to buy and ask for proof of funds or pre approval letter before showing them homes.

3. Have someone go to the showing with you if you do not know the client or are feeling uneasy.

4. Bring a flashlight! Even if the power is on there could be burnt out light bulbs or poor lighting in basements.

5. If you go to show alone, tell someone where you will be, who you are meeting, what time and check in after your showing.

6. Walk around the exterior of the home before entering to make sure there are no broken windows or kicked in doors. If the property is not secure it may not be safe to enter.

7.  Be careful on slippery walks and driveways during winter. Wear appropriate shoes/boots.

8. Trust your gut! If it doesn't seem right don't ignore that feeling.
