Case Study: Property Inspection Reporting

Client: Nationwide Bank

The Challenge

During an occupancy inspection for National Bank, a neighbor informed us that she had not seen the occupant in several days and feared she had already moved out leaving her 5 cats behind.

The Solution

Parkvue Realty contacted the authorities who informed us that the owner (bank) was responsible for accessing the property to determine the occupancy and verify the presence of abandoned animals. Because we represented the bank, it was our responsibility to step in and gain access to the property. When were arrived we found that the occupant hadn’t moved out, rather was she was non-responsive in the home. We immediately contacted 911 and the occupant was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The authorities advised us that we were also responsible for ensuring the safe keeping of the 5 cats found inside the home. We contacted local shelters but they would not take the cats without the authority of their owner, who was still in the hospital. With no other options, we shifted gears from real estate brokers to foster parents and went to the home daily to leave out food and water for the cats. We worked with the authorities to obtain contact information for the occupant’s out-of-town relatives. We continued to care for the animals for 7 days until the relatives were able to retrieve them. The occupant made a full recovery and soon was able to move out of the home and was ultimately reunited with her cats.
